Training on blood storage
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: A three days training on blood storage units for medical officers (MOs) began at Seminar Hall, Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun yesterday.
In his inaugural speech, Deputy Director, State Blood Transfusion Council Dr. Pakba Ringu spoke on the importance of such training programme for the effective service delivery of blood transfusion services since the blood transfusion service in the state is still in nascent stage.
Altogether six MOs from different hospitals of Arunachal Pradesh, namely General Hospital, Pasighat, District Hospital, Ziro, RK Mission Hospital, Itanagar and Arunachal State Hospital attended the programme.
The training will be held into two sessions -
The resource persons Dr. Joram Khopey, MD (Path), Blood Bank Medical Officer, District Hospital, Ziro and Dr. P.Sona,MD (Path), Blood Bank Medical Officer, ASH, Naharlagun will conduct the training session.
The trainees will be taught about maintenance and management of blood units in the blood bank with theoretical discussion and practical demonstration.

3 houses gutted in fire
PASIGHAT, Mar 01: At least 3 houses were gutted down in two separate fire mishap at Tigra Mirbuk village near Pasighat within a gap of 24 hours.
On February 25, a house belonged to Tayem Ering was reduced to ashes at around 6 PM, while on February 27 at the same area and same time, the fire devoured the houses of Opang Jamoh and Johny Ering. The causes of the Fire are being investigated. Through the fire tender which rushed to the spot was of great help specially for preventing fire to spread to the nearby houses it was felt inadequate due to shortage for manpower and sufficient vehicle.

Training on Molecular methods for Diversity analysis” concludes
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: The three days training on “Molecular methods for Diversity analysis” conducted by the Department of Basic Science and Humanities under Institutional Biotechnology Hub concluded at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat today.
A total of 40 students and research scholars from Jawaharlal Nehru College, College of Horticulture & Forestry participated in the training programme.
The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. AK Pandey, Dean of the college. The welcome address was delivered by the Course Director Amit Kumar Singh.
Attending the valedictory function today, Dean of the college Dr. AK Pandey highlighted on the biodiversity richness of the region and its proper maintenance and utilization using biotechnological approaches. He also spoke on the need and future of genetically modified crops, how the biotechnology tools can be used for increasing the productivity as well as the quality production of various crops and their varieties.

Dwelling house gutted
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: In a fire accident reportedly broke out on 26 February last; a dwelling house of one Rare Nabam was gutted down at P Sector Nirjuli. All the belonging of the house were completely burnt down to ashes and no material could retrieve during the mishap. Fire victim appealed to the concern authority to provide relief materials at earliest.
Illicit poppy cultivation destroyed at Namsai
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: Illicit poppy plants cultivated in around 7.6 hectares of land at Wakkatliang, Manyuliang and Medo area of Wakro circle under Namsai Sub–Division were destroyed by Namsai administration today.

PPA calls for effective policy to create job opportunities for educated youth
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: Lambasting the ruling Congress Govt for, what the party said, not having a concrete plan for absorption of thousands of educated unemployed skilled youths passing out from six ITI's from various districts of the state, PPA president Nikh Kamin today stated that the situation arising out of “such unplanned manufacturing of locally available raw material based skilled manpower” is extremely dangerous and harmful not only to the youths and their family households but to the state as a whole.
“In absence of factories, industries and other employment avenues such as private or public sectors undertakings, the youths are left with no option but to form Associations, Unions, Fronts and Forums to ventilate their grievances.”
According to Laeta Umbrey, the PPA Chief Ministerial candidate, every year six ITI's in 18 different trades produce hundreds of frustrated souls. “With Govt department reaching a saturated point to absorb any further staffs and to add salt to the wounds of the unemployed youths, the RR policy of every Dept leaving no especial provision for such skilled man power, the youths are left with no option but to either involve in antisocial activities or become jack of all trades but master of none.”
Kenyir Ringu the State Mahila President PPA said it is time to evolve a policy package backed by adequate resources to set up few dozens of small, medium and heavy industries within the state and also expedite few hydro power and thermal power projects and also open up the trade routes with neighboring countries to engage the youths in mercantile activities.
What is required, according to Toko Sheetal, PPA Vice President is strong political will backed by strong vision plan, which a regional party like PPA, alone can feel and implement in all earnestness to solve the unemployment problems.

Pasighat achieves visible development: Tuki
PASIGHAT, Mar 01: Pasighat has been in limelight for its stupendous development in various sectors including infrastructure, education, agriculture and visible developments have been achieved by the government in the education sector in particular under the leadership of the present Education Minister Bosiram Siram and Union Minister of State Ninong Ering during last four years. This was said by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while addressing the people here at the Sikshak Sadan after inaugurating the newly constructed Polytechnic College, Administrative Block of JNC, DDSE office, the state’s first Shikshak Sadan and Information Technology College at Pasighat in presence of ministers, MLAs and Govt officers.
Stating that factors like infrastructure, connectivity and human resources are given additional thrust, the Chief Minister said vast investments were required and dynamics of the knowledge city could be understood by imagining a society that is aimed at knowledge creation and propagation under care of the education minister.

The state government has conducted a research study organizing job melas that has revealed the changing aspiration of the youths. The survey concluded that the youths of the state are very vibrant and ready for change and many of them have got preferable jobs minimizing unemployment problems. He also made aware the people about other initiatives taken by the government like enhancement of Labor wages, issuing licenses to the SHGs to open counters etc. He apprised the people that government is putting all efforts to issue Health Insurance Cards to the people including govt. employees soon which would help the people to get free medical services across the nation.

2nd day of AFF witnesses workshops on script writing, cinematography
ITANAGAR, Mar 01: In keeping with the attempt to promote films and film making in the state and as a part of the ongoing Arunachal Film Festival (AFF) 2014 organised by the IPR department, workshops on ‘Concept, script writing and direction’ by Ahsan Muzid, Film Director from Assam and ‘Basic Cinematography’ by Ajay Tandon, Cinematographer from FTI Mumbai were conducted today at the Science Centre, I. G. Park, Itanagar.
Films are a costly, elaborate and complex artistic expression and a visual medium of telling stories, stated Ahsan Muzid during the workshop. He went on to give an in depth idea of his understanding of what concept, script writing and direction meant, learnt from his years of experience in the field of film making in the region. He also advised all the film enthusiasts to watch films, learn to appreciate them, learn techniques watching them and make films.
Ajay Tandon explained on how the camera is a tool that can create a difference by capturing images. He also emphasized on the importance of the person behind the camera in making or breaking a shot and spoke about the need for technical knowhow of the people involved in the film making process. In elaboration to a view expressed by a participant, Tandon said that shots/ photographs capture only part of a bigger canvas at a time and so our attention is drawn to all the tiny details in the picture and therefore what in reality may not be spectacular turn out beautiful and stunning.
The workshops were interactive and well liked and appreciated by the film fraternity and students present. Meanwhile the feature films ‘Hiejum Tangkanam’, ‘Aati Peying’ and ‘Kal Aj Aur Kal’ and documentary films ‘ Oyi’ and ‘ Nayi Raah’ which were screened at the Siddharth Hall were well received by the audience. Around thousands spectators and participants coming from different colleges of the state witnessed the breathtaking Olympic Lamp lighting ceremony on the first day of the festival yesterday besides varieties of enthralling extracurricular activities.
Sports, literary and cultural activities were the main events of the first day.
The three hours long cultural programme in the first night of the festival turned out to be a fantabulous event and rejuvenated the energy level of the audiences after the daylong vigorous sports activities. The “Jai Ho” number performed by the host university was accepted with the loudest cheer. The performance portrayed on the importance of conserving the environment by St. Claret College, Ziro was an eye opener for the crowd. The cultural event also included mime and group dance.
Former MLA, Ngurang Pinch while taking part in the cultural event has said that those days are gone when festivals were limited to own tribes and functions were confined to literary activities, but with the passage of time, the young generation also modifies the style of celebrating festivals and functions. He further mentioned that youths are the most vibrant and resourceful sections of the society and if garnered properly could serve as a potential force for the development and also a catalyst in a nation building activities.

The resource persons of the workshop, Dakter Esse, Asst. Professor, Dept of Mass Communication, RGU, who is also a Ph. D Scholar in Cultural Studies from Tezpur University and journalist Karpu Chisi, presented a joint paper titled, “Preserving folklore tradition in the Himalayan foothills: A case study of ‘Enchantation’.”
While interacting with the participants Esse said, “the objective of the paper is to examine the ways we can think of preserving our culture and study the cultural imaginings of folklore in the Himalayan foothills.”
Chisi dealt at length on Arunachal music album titled, “Enchantation” taking it as a case study. ‘Musicians and composers from outside the state regard Arunachalee music in the form of folklores and chants as Raw and untouched. They find our music very enchanting and unique. Such is the case in the tribal album Enchantation’, Chisi apprised. She further added that the Arunachal music album, Enchantation is an example of preservation with an innovation.

Delivering the key note address, an assistant teacher of DPVN Rehana Bagra said the mothers are the main teacher of growing children and they should take proper care of their children during their childhood. Stating that DPVN run under Vidya Bharati is taking some special initiatives to stimulate the mothers for development of morality in their growing child. She appealed to the mothers to take active part in transformation of the society.
Addressing the mothers present on the occasion, a lady teacher Dui Gao urged them to take proper care of their child to prevent them from going astray. She suggested the mothers to keep close observation of their children so that they cannot come to contact of the evil practices.

District level Nodal Officers with superintendent of excise and police personnel would conduct frequent raids and seize illicit liquor and take legal action against any illegal storage or transportation of illicit liquor in the state.
It also instructed them to maintain daily production record of IMFL of all distilleries/bottling plants, sale record of IMFL/Beer from bond to wholesalers.
As per directive, the wine shops will strictly close at 7 am and open at 10 am from the date of issue of election notification till polling, the order said.
